MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Catherine Hess, a member of the Mount Vernon Nazarene
University women's soccer team, has been selected as the American
Mideast Conference, NAIA Region IX, and National Christian College
Athletic Association Player of the Week for her performances
during the week of October 26-November 1.
Hess, a junior forward from Hillsboro, Ohio, led the Lady Cougars to a pair of victories as MVNU captured its first-ever AMC South Division title. In a 4-1 win at Cedarville University, the former All-Ohioan at Hillsboro High School rallied the Lady Cougars from an early 1-0 deficit with two goals. Then, in a 3-0 shutout of Urbana University, Hess scored two more goals to lead the way. On the season, Hess has scored a career-high 14 goals and leads the team with a school-record 13 assists. She has become the program's all-time leader with 32 career assists, and she ranks third with 38 career goals. MVNU, which has posted a program-best 16-2-1 overall record, will host Geneva (Pa.) College in the first round of the American Mideast Conference/NAIA Region IX Tournament on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. The winner will advance to the NAIA Region IX Final Four on Friday, November 14.
