Lady Cougars Land Five on AMC South Division Second Team

 MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Five members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s fastpitch softball team were honored in the American Mideast Conference South Division when the season honors were announced this week.

Laura Kot, Stephanie Johnson, Heather Clark, Tiffany Simpson, and Shara Dyer were each named to the AMC South Division Second Team in voting down by the league’s coaches.

Kot, a freshman outfielder from Tallmadge, Ohio, led the Lady Cougars with a .439 batting average. The former Tallmadge High School product recorded three doubles, four triples, nine RBI, and 25 runs scored. Kot was also selected as the AMC South Division Freshman of the Year.

Johnson, a sophomore shortstop from Tallmadge, Ohio, batted .359 for MVNU and led the team with 14 doubles, five triples, 29 runs scored, and 34 RBI this season. The former Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy star also recorded two home runs and stole seven bases.

Clark, a sophomore right-handed pitcher from Oxford, Ohio, was named to the AMC South Division Second Team for the second straight year. The former Talawanda High School standout posted a 13-9 record on the mound with a 1.80 earned run average and 84 strikeouts.

Simpson, a senior second baseman from Loudonville, Ohio, batted .289 with two doubles, four triples, 11 RBI, and 20 runs scored. The former Hillsdale High School product also stole seven bases and recorded eight sacrifice bunts.

Dyer, a junior catcher from Bucyrus, Ohio, posted a .248 batting average with 10 doubles, 11 runs scored, and 22 RBI. The former Bucyrus High School graduate also threw out 14 runners trying to steal this season and committed just four errors in 186 chances.

The Lady Cougars finished the season with a 23-17 overall record and were fourth in the AMC South Division with an 8-6 mark.
