NewsMVNU's Kot Earns Weekly Softball Honors Againwritten by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Laura Kot, a member of the Mount Vernon
Nazarene University women’s fastpitch softball team, has been
selected as the American Mideast Conference and NAIA Region IX
Player of the Week for her performance during the week of April
25-May 1. This marks the second time this season that Kot has
received these honors.
Kot, a freshman outfielder from Tallmadge, Ohio, batted .700 (7-for-10) for the week as the Lady Cougars went 2-2 and finished fifth out of 10 teams at the National Christian College Athletic Association National Tournament in Marion, Indiana. The former Tallmadge High School standout went 4-for-4 with two runs scored in a 9-1 victory over Piedmont (Ga.) College. She went 2-for-3 with an RBI in a 9-3 loss to Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) University, who was ranked 12th in the NAIA at the time. Then, she drove in the winning run with a single in the bottom of the eighth inning in a 2-1 victory over Mid-Continent (Ky.) University. She did not play in the team’s final game - another loss to Olivet Nazarene - due to a stress fracture in her foot being too painful for her to continue. For the season, Kot leads MVNU with a .439 batting average (47-for-107), three doubles, four triples, nine RBI, and 25 runs scored. She has a .455 on-base percentage as the team’s lead-off hitter, and she has also registered three outfield assists. MVNU finished the regular season with a 23-15 mark and tied for fourth place in the American Mideast Conference South Division with an 8-6 record. The Lady Cougars will travel to Tiffin University for an AMC Tournament best-of-three series that begins with two games on Thursday. The first game is slated to start at 3:30 p.m.
