MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s
volleyball team has signed an important recruit for the 2004
season with the addition of Ashlee Brandt.
Brandt, a 5-foot-6 setter from Riverside, California, has decided to further her education and continue her volleyball career at MVNU. A two-time All-Sunkist League First Team selection, Brandt set school records by serving for all 15 points in a game during the 2002 season and also for most aces in a game during the 2003 campaign. As a senior at Norte Vista High School, she compiled 27 aces, 96 digs, and 74 kills in 16 matches. As a junior, she helped her team to the Sunkist League title. "Ashlee is a high quality person and player, and we are happy for her to join our program,” said MVNU head coach Paul Swanson, who has compiled a 688-238 record in 20 seasons with the Lady Cougars. "We look forward to the positive influence she will have on our team. She is a quality setter with lots of good competitive training in high school and club volleyball.” In addition to playing volleyball, Brandt was an All-Sunkist League Second Team pick in soccer as a freshman and also played softball. She has been active in student government and served as the sophomore class president and the student body vice president. In addition, she has been a member of Renaissance, Braves for Christ, Congress Club, Prom Committee, and National Honor Society. "There are several reasons why I chose MVNU,” said Brandt of her college choice. "At MVNU, I will have the opportunity to get a great education, play volleyball, and most importantly, grow in my relationship with God. MVNU has all the qualities I want in a college, and I am excited about going to Ohio.” MVNU posted a 36-10 overall record in 2003 and advanced to the NAIA Region IX Tournament for the tenth straight season. The Lady Cougars have won at least 36 matches in each of the past 11 seasons.
