MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Brent Zimmerman, a member of the Mount Vernon
Nazarene University baseball team, was recently selected as the
National Christian College Athletic Association Player of the Week
for his performance during the week of March 1-7.
Zimmerman, a junior outfielder from Lucas, Ohio, was recognized for helping the Cougars split a non-conference doubleheader against Capital University in MVNU’s opening games of the season. He went 5-for-9 (.556 batting average) in the two games with two RBI, one run scored, and one stolen base. In the first game, the former Lucas High School standout registered a career-high four hits in six at bats and drove in the winning run in the bottom of the 12th inning as the Cougars rallied for a 5-4 victory. In the second contest, Zimmerman went 1-for-3 as MVNU managed just two hits in the 3-1 loss. On the season, Zimmerman is batting .289 (11-for-38) with one double, nine runs scored, and four RBI. He is also tied for the team lead with three stolen bases. MVNU is currently 12-8 overall. The Cougars are scheduled to play a nine-inning non-conference game at Wright State University on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.
