NewsMVNU's Laughlin Named Conference Pitcher of the Weekwritten by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Mike Laughlin, a member of the Mount Vernon
Nazarene University baseball team, was recently selected as the
American Mideast Conference Pitcher of the Week for his effort in
games played during the week of March 7-13.
Laughlin, a freshman right-hander from Mogadore, Ohio, made his first collegiate start a memorable one as he allowed just two hits and one walk in tossing a 10-0 shutout against Ohio State University-Newark in non-conference action. The former Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy standout also struck out a career-high 10 batters over six innings of work. For the season, Laughlin is now 2-0 with 16 strikeouts and just two walks in 12 2/3 innings of work. He has also allowed just four hits and one unearned run with opposing batters hitting just .100 against him. MVNU, which is now 3-2 overall on the season, will head to Fort Myers, Florida, on Wednesday as the Cougars take their annual spring trip to the Gene Cusic Classic, where the team will play 15 games in a 10-day span. MVNU will face New England (N.H.) College at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday in the team's first game of the trip.
