MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's basketball team will honor its two senior players prior to the Lady Cougars' final game of the season on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. against Malone College.

Lisa Weller and Susan Adams are both four-year players who have contributed greatly to the program during their careers. As freshmen, the pair was a part of the MVNU squad that used an at-large berth in the National Christian College Athletic Association National Tournament to spur them on to an NCCAA national title despite being the tournament's eighth seed. The Lady Cougars have posted a 45-70 record during the past four years.

Weller, a 5-foot-6 guard from Carthage, New York, has seen action in 101 games during her career and has averaged 4.0 points and 1.2 rebounds per game. She also ranks tenth in school history with 100 career three-pointers made. This season, the former Carthage Central High School standout is averaging 2.9 points while making 22 three-pointers as she has played in all 28 games with 10 starts.

"Lisa has worked very hard over the past four years and has improved each year," said MVNU head coach Steve Gregory. "Her role on this team has been constantly changing and evolving, and she has handled it with grace and class which says a lot about her character."

"Lisa has been a 'hired gun' so to speak as her main strength has been her perimeter shooting," Gregory added. "As any of her teammates can attest, she has good range. If not guarded closely from 30 feet, Lisa will take a shot and make the defense pay. She has become a much better defender and rebounder these past two seasons, and her work ethic is a key reason."

Adams, a 5-foot-9 forward from Cardington, Ohio, has played in 115 career games while averaging 12.9 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. She ranks second in school history with 548 career field goals made, third in career points (1,483) and rebounds (763), fourth in career three-pointers made (133), sixth in career free throws made (254), and eighth in career steals (189). She was an AMC South Division and NCCAA East Region Second Team selection in 2002-2003. This season, the former Cardington High School star leads the team in scoring (16.4 points per game) and rebounding (7.6 rebounds per game) to go along with 50 steals and 65 assists as she has started all 28 games.

"Susan has been a true joy to coach over the past four seasons," said Gregory. "She has been a coach's dream from the standpoint of work ethic, intensity, hustle, teamwork, and loyalty. She has been a warrior over the years - the kind of kid that stays positive, enthusiastic, and confident no matter what the situation."

"Susan has played the two, three, and four spots for us over the years and would fit well in any of those positions," Gregory added. "While she is a little undersized height-wise, she makes up for it in her intensity, determination, and discipline. She has been a great scorer and rebounder for us and has been equally impressive with her overall game. She has shown great improvement over the past four years, and I am thankful for her leadership and commitment to our program. She will be the standard by which we measure all future perimeter players.

"These two seniors have contributed greatly to our program during their tenure," said Gregory. "Both were a vital part of an NCCAA national championship four years ago. Very few players can boast of a national title during their college years, and of course it is something that no one can take away from them."
