MVNU's Keller Featured in Sports Illustrated's "Faces"
written by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director

Photo of Katie KellerMOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Katie Keller, a member of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's basketball team, is featured in the December 8th issue of Sports Illustrated in the "Faces in the Crowd" section.

Keller, a 5-foot-5 freshman guard from Prospect, Ohio, had a memorable collegiate debut when she scored 39 points - one shy of the Lady Cougars' single-game record - in an 84-55 victory at the University of Michigan-Dearborn on November 5. The former Elgin High School star nailed a school-record 12 three-pointers in 15 attempts as she shot 80 percent from beyond the arc in the game. The 12 three-pointers made were one shy of the NAIA Division II national record.

For the season, Keller is averaging 16.7 points per game and leads the team with 28 three-pointers made and 16 steals. She is shooting 50.9 percent from outside the arc (28-for-55).

MVNU is currently 3-4 overall on the season. Ironically, the Lady Cougars' next game will be at home on Saturday against Michigan-Dearborn. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m.

Keller is the eighth MVNU athlete or coach to be featured in Sports Illustrated in the past nine years. Out of that group, three have been natives of Marion County - Tara Seiter (November 2, 1998), Shelly Aldrich (October 9, 2000), and Keller.
