NewsMVNU's Balogh Named to CoSIDA Academic All-America Teamwritten by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Cheryl Balogh, a member of the Mount Vernon
Nazarene University women's soccer team, was recently named to the
College Division Academic All-America Team by the College Sports
Information Directors of America.
Balogh, a senior defender from Lima, Ohio, was named to the College Division Academic All-America Second Team. Each team consisted of 11 players from NCAA Division II and III and NAIA schools. Balogh was the only NAIA player among the 33 honorees. Balogh, a former All-Ohioan at Elida High School, started all 24 matches for the Lady Cougars and led the team in minutes played with 2,143. She anchored the MVNU defense that allowed just 12 goals in 24 matches and posted a school-record 15 shutouts. She also recorded one assist to finish with 15 assists for career. In the classroom, Balogh is also a standout as she has posted a 3.94 grade point average as an Exercise Studies/Sports Management double major. She has been named to the NAIA and National Christian College Athletic Association All-America Scholar-Athlete Teams twice, and has been on the MVNU Dean's List all six semesters. The Lady Cougars finished the 2003 season with a 20-3-1 overall record. The team also won the American Mideast Conference South Division crown and the NCCAA national title in only its fourth season as a varsity sport.
