MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Laura Kot, a member of the Mount Vernon
Nazarene University women’s fastpitch softball team, was
recently selected as the American Mideast Conference and NAIA
Region IX Player of the Week for her performance during the week
of March 21-27.
Kot, a freshman outfielder from Tallmadge, Ohio, batted .571 during the Lady Cougars’ 3-3 week. She went 8-for-14 at the plate with two triples, three RBI, and five runs scored. The former Tallmadge High School standout led MVNU to a 3-1 record before missing the final two games of the week (both losses) with the flu. In a 7-1 loss to the University of Wisconsin-Superior, Kot went 1-for-3 at the plate and registered an outfield assist. Then, she went 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored, and one RBI in a 7-5 victory over Sewanee (Tenn.) University. She followed that up with a 3-for-5 game with one RBI and one run scored in a 7-6 win over Otterbein College in 10 innings. Then, she closed out the week by going 1-for-2 with a triple, one RBI, and two runs scored in a 10-6 victory over DePauw (Ill.) College. On the season, Kot, who is the team’s leadoff hitter, is batting a team-best .407 (11-for-27) with two triples, eight runs scored, and four RBI. She is also 2-for-3 in stolen base attempts, and she has a team-best .448 on-base percentage. The Lady Cougars are currently 4-6 overall. MVNU will open up American Mideast Conference South Division play with a doubleheader at Malone College on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
