VERNON, Ohio - Katey Percival, a member of the Mount Vernon
Nazarene University women's volleyball team, has been named the
American Mideast Conference and NAIA Region IX Setter of the Week
for her performance during the week of September 2-8.
Percival, a sophomore from Elyria, Ohio, averaged 10.90 assists per game for the week as she led the Lady Cougars to a 4-0 record. The former All-Ohioan at Amherst Steele High School also posted seven kills, eight aces, three blocks, and 18 digs as she played in 10 games for MVNU. In a sweep of Kenyon College to open the week, Percival handed out 32 assists to go with five digs and two aces. In a three-game win over Notre Dame College, she finished with two aces, three kills, nine digs, and 38 assists. She added three kills, two digs, and 32 assists in a sweep of Ohio State University-Newark, and she finished the week with three aces, two digs, and seven assists in a sweep of Central State University as she played in just one game in that match. In the victory over Central State, the Lady Cougars set a new school record with 22 aces. Percival is among the AMC leaders in assists per game at 10.33. She is closing in on her 1,000th career assist which should come this weekend. She has also recorded 14 blocks, 13 aces, 25 kills, and 75 digs so far this season. MVNU is currently 10-1 overall this season and ranked 25th in the latest NAIA national poll. The Lady Cougars, who have won eight straight matches, will host the Pizza Hut Invitational this weekend with matches on Friday and Saturday. MVNU will take on Marian (Ind.) College at 4:00 p.m. and the University of Saint Francis (Ill.) at 8:00 p.m. on Friday.
