MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Four members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's volleyball team were honored on Monday when the National Christian College Athletic Association East Region Team was announced. Katie Zipf, a 6-foot senior middle hitter from Westerville, Ohio, was named to the NCCAA East Region Team. The former Big Walnut High School star leads MVNU with 66 aces this season while also compiling 317 kills, 89 blocks, 51 assists, and 191 digs. Katey Percival, a 5-foot-9 sophomore setter from Elyria, Ohio, joined Zipf on the NCCAA East Region Team. The former All-Ohioan at Amherst Steele High School leads the Lady Cougars with 1,208 assists. Percival has also recorded 77 kills, 58 blocks, 28 aces, and 277 digs. Jessica Harding, a 5-foot-11 junior outside hitter from New Philadelphia, Ohio, was an NCCAA East Region Honorable Mention selection. The former All-Ohioan at Garaway High School leads the team with a .291 attack percentage to go along with 293 kills, 66 blocks, and 54 digs. Chelsea Knight, a 5-foot-11 junior middle hitter from West Salem, Ohio, joined Harding as an NCCAA East Region Honorable Mention pick. The former Northwestern High School standout leads the Lady Cougars with 128 blocks. Knight has also contributed 147 kills, 21 aces, and 36 digs. MVNU head coach Paul Swanson was also named the NCCAA East Region Coach of the Year after guiding the Lady Cougars (25-7) to the NCCAA East Region title and the program's twelfth straight berth in the NCCAA National Tournament. MVNU will compete for the NCCAA national title on October 31-November 2 at Indiana Wesleyan University. Meanwhile, the Lady Cougars will return to action on Tuesday at home against Walsh University, ranked eleventh in the NAIA, at 7:00 p.m.
