VERNON, Ohio - Carrie McClelland, a member of the Mount Vernon
Nazarene University women's volleyball team, has been selected as
the National Christian College Athletic Association Player of the
Week for her performance in matches during the week of October
14-20.
McClelland, a 5-foot-11 junior middle hitter from Fredericktown, Ohio, led the Lady Cougars to a 3-1 record for the week as she averaged 3.64 kills, 2.14 blocks, 1.71 digs, and a .339 attack percentage for the week. In a five-game win at Urbana University in American Mideast Conference South Division action, McClelland posted a triple-double with a team-high 16 kills, 12 digs, and a career-high 14 blocks. She followed that with 11 kills, seven blocks, and eight digs in a win over Geneva (Pa.) College at the NCCAA East Region Tournament. Then, the former All-Ohioan at Fredericktown High School recorded eight kills, five blocks, and three aces in a victory over Malone College as the Lady Cougars won the NCCAA East Region title. She closed out the week with 16 kills in a loss to NCAA Division II Wheeling Jesuit (W.Va.) University. For the season, McClelland leads MVNU with 325 kills while also recording 118 blocks, 40 aces, and 200 digs. She recently moved into eleventh place on the school's all-time kills list with 1,068, and she ranks seventh in career blocks with 460. The Lady Cougars (26-8, 8-3 AMC South) will return to action on Saturday when the team will host Cedarville University and the University of Rio Grande in a pair of AMC South matches that are slated for 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. respectively.
