Five Lady Cougars Named to NCCAA East Region Soccer Team

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Five members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's soccer team have been named to the National Christian College Athletic Association East Region Team that was announced on Friday.

Kristen Votapek, Cheryl Balogh, Bethany Seiffert, Catherine Hess, and Kelly Evans all earned NCCAA East Region Team honors for their efforts in guiding the Lady Cougars to a 13-5-1 record so far and the NCCAA East Region title.

Votapek, a freshman forward from Amelia, Ohio, has scored a school-record 23 goals to go with eight assists while starting all 19 matches. The former All-Ohioan at Amelia High School has also posted a school-record 54 points. Earlier this season, she set a school record with four goals in a win at Notre Dame College.

Balogh, a junior defender from Lima, Ohio, has started all 19 matches and leads the team with 1,640 minutes played in the field. The former Elida High School star has also scored one goal and added three assists while anchoring the Lady Cougars' defense that has posted five shutouts.

Seiffert, a senior midfielder from Lewis Center, Ohio, has started 18 of the team's 19 matches this season. The former Olentangy High School standout has recorded six goals and six assists for MVNU for a total of 18 points.

Hess, a sophomore forward from Hillsboro, Ohio, has started 18 of the team's 19 matches this year. The former All-Ohioan from Hillsboro High School is second on the team with nine goals and leads the Lady Cougars with 11 assists.

Evans, a senior midfielder from Sunbury, Ohio, has started all 19 matches this year. The former Big Walnut High School star has recorded four goals and six assists this season.

The Lady Cougars are currently participating in the NAIA Region IX Final Four at Houghton (N.Y.) College. MVNU will take on top-seeded Houghton at noon on Friday. The team has also qualified for the NCCAA National Tournament in Kissimmee, Florida, if they are knocked out of the NAIA Tournament.
