MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Six members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's soccer team and their coach were honored on Thursday when the American Mideast Conference South Division awards were announced. Bethany Seiffert, a senior from Lewis Center, Ohio, highlighted the list for the Lady Cougars as she was named the top midfielder on the AMC South Division First Team. The former Olentangy High School standout has recorded seven goals and six assists so far this season. Kristen Votapek, a freshman forward from Amelia, Ohio, joined Seiffert on the AMC South Division First Team. The former All-Ohioan at Amelia High School leads MVNU with a school-record 24 goals and eight assists this season. Votapek, who has broken or tied six school records this year, has scored at least one goal in each of the last seven matches for the Lady Cougars. Cheryl Balogh, a junior defender from Lima, Ohio, was also named to the AMC South Division First Team. The former Elida High School star has anchored the MVNU defense that has posted five shutouts. She has also scored one goal to go with three assists. Kelly Evans, a senior midfielder from Sunbury, Ohio, was an AMC South Division Honorable Mention selection. The former Big Walnut High School standout has compiled four goals and six assists this season. Catherine Hess, a sophomore forward from Hillsboro, Ohio, was also an AMC South Division Honorable Mention pick. The former All-Ohioan at Hillsboro High School is second on the team with nine goals and leads the Lady Cougars with a school-record 11 assists. Sarah Helbert, a sophomore defender from Avon Lake, Ohio, was also chosen as an AMC South Division Honorable Mention selection. The former Avon Lake High School star has been a key part of the MVNU back line all season. Head coach Jonathan Meade was also selected by his peers as the AMC South Division Coach of the Year. In only the third year of the team's existence at the varsity level, Meade has guided the Lady Cougars to a 13-6-1 overall record and a third-place finish in the AMC South Division. MVNU is currently in Kissimmee, Florida, to take part in the National Christian College Athletic Association National Tournament. The Lady Cougars, who are the fifth-seed in the eight-team event, will take on fourth-seeded Trinity International (Ill.) University at 2:00 p.m. on Friday in the first round.
