MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Five members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's volleyball team were honored when the American Mideast Conference South Division awards were announced earlier this week. Katey Percival, a sophomore setter from Elyria, Ohio, was named to the AMC South Division First Team. The former All-Ohioan at Amherst Steele High School leads the Lady Cougars with 1,733 assists. She has also recorded 109 kills, 73 blocks, 37 aces, and 372 digs. Carrie McClelland, a junior middle hitter from Fredericktown, Ohio, was named to the AMC South Division Second Team. The former All-Ohioan at Fredericktown High School leads MVNU with 458 kills. She has also compiled 177 blocks, 52 aces, and 241 digs. Katie Zipf, a senior middle hitter from Westerville, Ohio, was selected to the AMC South Division Honorable Mention Team. The former Big Walnut High School standout leads the team with 75 aces to go along with 451 kills, 141 blocks, 89 assists, and 273 digs. Amanda Stevens, a freshman outside hitter from Mount Vernon, Ohio, joined Zipf on the AMC South Division Honorable Mention Team and was also selected to the AMC South Division All-Freshmen Team. The former All-Ohioan at Centerburg High School leads the Lady Cougars with 469 digs. She has also tallied 244 kills, 67 blocks, and 44 aces. Jenny Weaver, a freshman outside hitter from Apple Creek, Ohio, joined Stevens on the AMC South Division All-Freshmen Team. The former All-Ohioan at Central Christian High School has compiled 196 kills, 65 blocks, 36 aces, and 303 digs this season. MVNU is currently 34-11 overall. The Lady Cougars will return to action on Friday when the team will take part in the AMC Tournament at Daemen (N.Y.) College. The team's first match will be at 5:00 p.m. against the winner of the match between Cedarville University and Seton Hill (Pa.) University.
