VERNON, Ohio - Katey Percival, a member of the Mount Vernon
Nazarene University women's volleyball team, was recently selected
as the American Mideast Conference and NAIA Region IX Setter of
the Week for her performance during the week of October
28-November 3.
Percival, a sophomore from Elyria, Ohio, led the Lady Cougars to a 5-2 record for the week that included a second-place finish at the 10-team National Christian College Athletic Association National Tournament. The former All-Ohioan at Amherst Steele High School averaged 10.22 assists and 1.67 digs for the week as she earned the Setter of the Week honors for the second time this season. At the NCCAA National Tournament, Percival recorded 39 assists, 11 digs, and a career-high five kills as MVNU beat host Indiana Wesleyan University, ranked #21 in the NAIA, in five games to open pool play. She added 42 and 47 assists respectively in wins over Trinity Christian (Ill.) College and Christian Heritage (Calif.) College. Then, she closed out pool play with 40 assists and 11 digs in a four-game loss to MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) University. With a 3-1 pool play record, the seventh-seeded Lady Cougars advanced to the NCCAA National Tournament semifinals to face fifth-seeded The Master's (Calif.) College. Percival handed out 39 assists to lead the Lady Cougars to the championship match with a four-game win over The Master's. In the title game, MVNU fell to top-seeded and defending NCCAA national champion Olivet Nazarene, ranked #18 in the NAIA, as Percival finished with 28 assists. For her efforts at the NCCAA National Tournament, she was named to the All-National Tournament Team. The Lady Cougars are currently 33-11 overall and 11-4 in the AMC South Division. MVNU will close out the regular season on Thursday with a conference match at Malone College that is slated to begin at 7:00 p.m.
