Five Cougars Named to NCCAA East Region Soccer Team

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Five members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University men's soccer team were recently honored when the National Christian College Athletic Association East Region Team was announced.

Trevor Knowles, a senior goalkeeper from Gahanna, Ohio, highlighted the Cougars on the NCCAA East Region Team. The former Westerville North High School standout has allowed just 19 goals in 19 matches for a 1.02 goals against average. Knowles has also helped the team post eight shutouts.

Matt Packard, a sophomore midfielder from Avon Lake, Ohio, joined Knowles on the NCCAA East Region Team. The former All-Ohioan at Avon Lake High School leads MVNU with 13 goals and seven assists. Packard has also scored in six straight matches.

Casey Swanson, a senior defender from Mount Vernon, Ohio, was also named to the NCCAA East Region Team. The former Mount Vernon High School star has played all 1,817 minutes for the Cougars this year and anchored the defense that has posted eight shutouts. Swanson has also scored three goals.

Nate Sommers, a sophomore forward from Mount Gilead, Ohio, rounded out the MVNU players on the NCCAA East Region Team. The former All-Ohioan at Mansfield Christian School has scored 10 goals and added five assists this season.

Jeffery Hinds, a freshman forward from Kingston, Jamaica, was also named to the NCCAA East Region Honorable Mention Team for the Cougars. The former Kingston College High School standout has compiled seven goals and seven assists in his first season at MVNU.

The Cougars are currently 13-7-0 overall. MVNU will return to action on Friday when the team takes part in the NCCAA National Tournament in Kissimmee, Florida. The Cougars will face York (Neb.) College at 4:30 p.m. in the first round of the eight-team tournament.
