MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Stephanie Johnson, a member of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's fastpitch softball team, was recently honored when the National Christian College Athletic Association All-American teams were announced.

Johnson, a freshman shortstop from Tallmadge, Ohio, was selected as an NCCAA Honorable Mention All-American in her first collegiate season. The former All-Ohioan from Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy leads the Lady Cougars in nearly every offensive category this season. She is batting .403 (64-for-159) with 11 doubles, five triples, two home runs, 29 RBI, and 31 runs scored. She also leads the team with 13 stolen bases.

MVNU has posted a 29-18 overall record so far this season - the third most wins in the program's history. The Lady Cougars finished third in the American Mideast Conference Central Division with a 13-7 mark. The team has also advanced to the NAIA Region IX Tournament for the first time ever and will begin play in the double elimination event on Thursday with a 10:00 a.m. game against Ohio Dominican University at Westminster (Pa.) College.
