written by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director

Jeremy SchlabachMOUNT VERNON, Ohio - The Mount Vernon Nazarene University men's golf team has signed another key recruit for the 2003-2004 season with the addition of Jeremy Schlabach, who has decided to further his education at MVNU and continue his golf career with the Cougars.

Schlabach, a senior at Garaway High School, has helped the Pirates to back-to-back undefeated Inter Valley Conference titles as Garaway has won 33 straight conference matches. As a senior, the Sugarcreek, Ohio native posted a nine-hole average of 40.0 strokes and an 18-hole average of 76.1 strokes. He was the Pirate Invitational medalist as well as the Sectional medalist, and he earned IVC First Team and Eastern District Second Team honors. Schlabach was also the All-County runner-up.

"I am so excited that Jeremy chose to attend MVNU," said Chris Huff, the Cougars' assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. "He is a great individual who wants to continue his game at the next level. He is going to be a great addition to our program. He takes golf very seriously, and he has a great attitude about the game. I feel that he will improve our program and help our team reach more goals in the years to come."

"There were several reasons why I chose to attend MVNU," said Schlabach of his college choice. "I like the small campus and the strong Christian atmosphere, and I'm looking forward to having the opportunity to play college golf. I really like Coach Huff's enthusiasm for the game, and I know that I will enjoy playing for him."

MVNU finished its 2002 fall season with a 31-3 overall record. The Cougars, who are ranked 23rd in the 2003 NAIA preseason poll, also finished third at the National Christian College Athletic Association National Tournament that was held in Seneca, South Carolina.
