MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's basketball team has signed another player to join the team in 2003-2004 with the addition of Miranda Capuano.

Capuano, a 6-foot guard/forward from Sherrodsville, Ohio, has decided to further her education and continue her basketball career at MVNU. As a junior at Carrollton High School, she averaged 8.3 points and 3.6 rebounds per game to earn Northeastern Buckeye Conference Second Team honors. She was selected to the District 5 Honorable Mention Team and the Eastern District Special Mention Team, and she was named to Ohio Girl's Basketball Magazine's "Top 64".

"I am excited about the early commitment that Miranda is making to our program," said MVNU head coach Steve Gregory. "She can shoot the perimeter jumper and has a knack for the post game as well. She brings athleticism to both (guard and forward) positions, which will be a key for us next year. She will bring much-needed size to the guard position, and her versatility is also a big plus."

"In addition to her basketball ability, Miranda is also a very good student," Gregory added. "She is a person who still has untapped potential and will continue to improve over the next several years. I like Miranda's basketball abilities, but more impressively, I like her Christian character and witness."

In addition to her accomplishments on the basketball court, Capuano has excelled in the classroom and was selected to National Honor Society and the Carrollton High School Academic Hall of Fame. She has been her class president twice and also was named to Homecoming Court twice.

"From the very first visit, I felt that MVNU was the right choice for me," said Capuano of her college choice. "The beautiful campus and friendly atmosphere were what attracted me initially. I also found a wide range of academic choices and possibilities. But, it was during my overnight visit that I discovered the terrific Lady Cougar basketball team, coach, and staff, and I knew that I wanted to be a part of the team."

MVNU is currently off to a 4-5 start this season with a roster that consists of eight freshmen and sophomores and only five juniors and seniors. The Lady Cougars will return to action on Saturday when the team will travel to the University of Rio Grande for a 6:00 p.m. conference contest.
