NewsMVNU Men's Soccer Team to Play in College Cup at Crew Stadium

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - The Mount Vernon Nazarene University men's soccer team will get its 2002 season under way with an exhibition match against Ohio Wesleyan University at Columbus Crew Stadium on Friday, August 23, at 5:00 p.m.
MVNU is coming off a 14-6-2 season in which the Cougars finished fifth in the highly-competitive American Mideast Conference with an 11-4-1 conference mark. The Battlin' Bishops of Ohio Wesleyan went 19-6-1 in 2001 and won the North Coast Athletic Conference title with an 8-1-0 mark. They also advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Division III national tournament.
The exhibition match is part of the College Cup being hosted by the Crew. Following the match between MVNU and Ohio Wesleyan, the University of Maryland will take on The Ohio State University at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the two matches are $5.00 per person and are available through TicketMaster, by calling the Crew at (614) 447-2739, or by purchasing them at the gate.
MVNU will get the regular season under way the following week when the team travels to Albertson (Idaho) College for a non-conference match against the Coyotes, the top-ranked team in NAIA Region I, at 4:00 p.m. local time.
