NewsMVNU's Barchus Named National Pitcher of the Weekwritten by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director
Barchus, a junior right-hander from Crestline, Ohio, began the week by tossing a one-hit shutout (his second of the season) at Walsh University in a 1-0 victory as he allowed just three walks with six strikeouts over seven innings. Then, the former Mansfield Christian High School standout closed out the week by picking up a win in relief in a 5-4 victory over Saint Vincent (Pa.) College as he allowed just one hit and one walk over 1 1/3 innings with two strikeouts. For the season, Barchus is 7-0 with a 2.41 earned run average. In 37 13 innings, he has struck out a team-high 49 batters and issued just 13 walks. Opposing batters are hitting just .213 against him. He also leads the team with two shutouts. MVNU will return to action on Thursday when the Cougars travel to Tiffin University for a non-conference doubleheader that will get under way at 1:00 p.m.
