MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Jon Barchus, a member of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University baseball team, has been selected as the American Mideast Conference and the NAIA Region IX Pitcher of the Week for his performance during the week of March 24-30.

Barchus, a junior right-hander from Crestline, Ohio, tossed a one-hit shutout on March 27 versus Thomas (Maine) College as the Cougars prevailed 11-0. In that game, the former Mansfield Christian High School standout struck out nine batters in five innings and allowed just one walk.

For the season, Barchus leads MVNU with a 4-0 record on the mound. In 22 innings of work, he has struck out 34 batters and walked just eight. He has also posted a 2.45 earned run average.

The Cougars are currently 10-5 on the season after winning a pair of games at Mount Union College on Tuesday. The team will return to action on Thursday with a non-conference nine-inning game at the College of Wooster that is slated to begin at 3:30 p.m.
