Casey Swanson, a member of the Mount Vernon Nazarene College men's soccer team, has been selected as the American Mideast Conference Defender of the Week for his performance in matches played during the week of September 3-9.
Swanson, a junior from Mount Vernon, Ohio, led the Cougars to a 1-0-1 week and a share of the First-Knox Cougar Invitational championship. The former Mount Vernon High School standout helped the MVNC defense shut Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) University down as the Cougars posted a 1-1 tie in double overtime. In the second match of the tournament, Swanson recorded two assists as MVNC blanked Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) University 11-0. He was named to the All-Tournament Team for his efforts.
The Cougars are currently 3-1-1 overall and 1-0-0 in the AMC. MVNC is scheduled to return to action on Saturday when the team will host Geneva (Pa.) College at 1:00 p.m.
