Four members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene College women's soccer team and three members of the MVNC men's soccer team will play their final regular-season home matches on Friday as both teams take on Notre Dame College of Ohio in American Mideast Conference action.
Seniors Sheri Shuler, Holly Shuler, Tiffany Chappell, and Krista Reynolds have helped the Lady Cougars to a 19-15 record over the past two seasons. Chappell, Reynolds, and Holly Shuler have each been a member of the women's soccer team since its inception as a club sport in 1999.
Sheri Shuler, a defender from Gahanna, Ohio, has started all 34 matches at MVNC since transferring from the University of Findlay after her sophomore year. Shuler has helped to anchor the Lady Cougars' defense that has posted 12 shutouts in the past two years. The former Gahanna-Lincoln High School product has also registered two assists for her career.
Holly Shuler, a midfielder from Gahanna, Ohio, has played in 32 career matches and made seven starts. The former Gahanna-Lincoln High School grad has recorded two goals and three assists during her career. During the club season in 1999, she also scored three goals to go along with one assist.
Chappell, a defender from New Columbia, Pennsylvania, has started all 34 matches the past two seasons and combined with Sheri Shuler to post 12 career shutouts. The former Milton Senior High School standout has contributed one career assist.
Reynolds, a midfielder from Gahanna, Ohio, is the third senior to come to MVNC from Gahanna-Lincoln High School. Reynolds has started all 34 matches the past two season and scored two career goals to go along with seven assists.
On the men's side, seniors Jeremy Stabile, Nels Radtke, and Preston Elifritz have led the Cougars to a four-year record of 62-24-5 (.709 winning percentage). MVNC has also gone to three straight National Christian College Athletic Association national tournaments.
Stabile, a midfielder from Columbus, Ohio, is in his third season with the team. Stabile has contributed three goals and eight assists during his career that includes two goals and five assists this season. He has played in 42 matches during his career.
Radtke, a midfielder from Worthington, Ohio, has played in 85 career matches with 70 starts. The former Worthington Christian High School standout has recorded four career goals and eight assists. Four of his assists have come this season.
Elifritz, a midfielder/forward from Fletcher, Ohio, has started 90 matches during his stellar career at MVNC. The former Miami East High School star ranks second in school history in goals scored (48), third in assists (44), and second in total points (140). Elifritz, who was named to the AMC Second Team last year, leads the team with 14 goals, eight assists, and 36 total points.
The action gets under way on Friday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. when the Lady Cougars take on the Blue Falcons followed at 4:00 p.m. with the men's game. MVNC's women's team is currently 8-7 overall and 6-6 in the AMC, while the men's team is 10-4-2 overall and 8-3-1 in the conference.
