Preston Elifritz, a member of the Mount Vernon Nazarene College men's soccer team, has been selected as the American Mideast Conference, NAIA Region IX, and National Christian College Athletic Association Player of the Week for his efforts during the week of October 15-21.
Elifritz, a senior forward from Fletcher, Ohio, led the Cougars to a 2-0 record for the week as he scored four goals and added one assist as MVNC picked up two conference wins.
Against Malone College, the former Miami East High School standout scored two goals and assisted on the first goal of the match as the Cougars blanked the Pioneers 5-0 for their ninth shutout of the year. Then, in a 3-1 win over Notre Dame College of Ohio, Elifritz scored two goals including the game-winner.
For the season, Elifritz has set a new career high with 17 goals as he leads the team in that category. He also leads the team with nine assists as he has moved into a tie for second place on the school's career assists list with 45. He is already second in career goals (51) and career points (147).
MVNC (12-4-2, 10-3-1) will return to action on Saturday when the team travels to Cedarville University for a conference match that is slated to get under way at 1:00 p.m.
