Six members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene College women's soccer team were honored recently when the American Mideast Conference awards were announced by the conference office.

Junior midfielder Bethany Seiffert, a native of Lewis Center, Ohio, was named to the AMC Second Team after recording nine goals and eight assists for the Lady Cougars this season. The former Olentangy High School standout transferred to MVNC this year after playing her first two seasons at Indiana Wesleyan University.

Seiffert was joined on the AMC Second Team by senior defender Sheri Shuler and sophomore forward Lisa Hinman. Shuler, a native of Gahanna, Ohio, and a former Gahanna-Lincoln product, helped the Lady Cougars' defense post seven shutouts this season. Meanwhile, Hinman, a native of Syracuse, New York, tied for the team lead with 13 goals. The former Faith Heritage School star also tied the school record with 10 assists.

Senior midfielder Krista Reynolds, sophomore midfielder Cheryl Balogh, and freshman forward Catherine Hess also received Honorable Mention for their efforts this season. Reynolds, a Gahanna, Ohio native and Gahanna-Lincoln graduate, compiled four goals and four assists, while Balogh, a native of Lima, Ohio, and an Elida High School standout posted five goals and seven assists. Hess, a Hillsboro, Ohio native and a former All-Ohioan at Hillsboro High School, tallied 13 goals and seven assists in her first collegiate season.

MVNC finished the 2001 campaign with a 14-9 overall record and a 10-6 AMC mark. The Lady Cougars also advanced to the National Christian College Athletic Association National Tournament for the first time in the program's brief two-year varsity history.
