"Three Lady Cougars Receive NCCAA Volleyball Honors"

   Three members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene College women's volleyball team were recently honored when the National Christian College Athletic Association announced its All-American and Academic All-American Teams.

   Seniors Darcee Hoberg and Amanda Triplett were each named to the NCCAA All-American First Team, while classmate Deanna Stayman earned NCCAA Academic All-American honors. Stayman was also chosen as the 2001 recipient of the Susan R. Hellings Award, which recognizes a player that excels on the court and in the classroom and is involved in ministry opportunities.

   Hoberg, an outside hitter from Coshocton, Ohio, leads the Lady Cougars in kills (434) and digs (419). The former All-Ohioan at River View High School has played in 126 games and recorded 49 blocks, 13 assists, and 62 aces. Hoberg also has a .296 attack percentage, a .959 serving percentage, and a .938 serve reception percentage.

   Triplett, an outside hitter from Rockford, Ohio, leads MVNC with a .341 attack percentage. The former All-Ohioan at Parkway High School has seen action in 126 games and compiled 398 kills, 59 blocks, 31 assists, 45 aces, and 388 digs. She has also recorded a .967 serving percentage and a .941 serve reception percentage.

   Stayman, a defensive specialist from Greencastle, Pennsylvania, leads the team with 62 aces. The former Shalom Christian Academy standout has played in a team-high 135 games and registered 13 kills, eight assists, and 401 digs. She has also compiled a .974 serving percentage and a .951 serve reception percentage.

   Stayman, who is a Music major, has compiled a 3.590 grade point average and been named to the MVNC Dean's List for four semesters. She is active on campus as a music leader in chapel services and has also worked as a music leader at several churches. In addition, she is one of the volleyball team captains.

   The Lady Cougars, who are currently 36-6 overall, will host the American Mideast Conference Tournament beginning on Thursday, November 15. MVNC earned the right to host the tournament by claiming a share of the AMC title for a record-setting fourth straight year.
