"Four Lady Cougars Earn AMC Volleyball Honors"

   Four members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene College women's volleyball team were recently honored when the American Mideast Conference announced its 2001 awards.

   Darcee Hoberg, a senior outside hitter from Coshocton, Ohio, finished as the runner-up for AMC Player of the Year as she was selected to the AMC First Team for the third straight season. The former All-Ohioan at River View High School led the Lady Cougars with 500 kills and 492 digs this season. Hoberg also finished the year with 58 blocks, 17 assists, and 69 aces.

   Amanda Triplett, a senior outside hitter from Rockford, Ohio, joined Hoberg on the AMC First Team for the second straight year. The former All-Ohioan at Parkway High School led the team with a .337 attack percentage. Triplett also compiled 474 kills, 70 blocks, 34 assists, 50 aces, and 468 digs.

   Andrea Rudd, a senior setter from Wilmington, Ohio, was an AMC Honorable Mention selection after leading MVNC with 1,211 assists. The former All-Ohioan at Wilmington High School also recorded 107 kills, 81 blocks, 22 aces, and 199 digs.

   Deanna Stayman, a senior defensive specialist from Greencastle, Pennsylvania, joined Rudd as an AMC Honorable Mention pick. The former Shalom Christian Academy standout led the team with a school-record 88 aces in 2001. Stayman also posted 453 digs.

   The Lady Cougars finished the season with an overall record of 39-8 as the team advanced to the NAIA Region IX championship match before falling for the third straight year. MVNC also became the first team in conference history to claim at least a share of four consecutive conference titles as the Lady Cougars shared the AMC crown with Malone College by posting a 21-2 conference mark.
