Jeremy Hilen, a member of the Mount Vernon Nazarene College men's soccer team, has been selected as the American Mideast Conference Defender of the Week for his performances during the week of October 29-November 4.
Hilen, a sophomore from West Chester, Ohio, helped the Cougars to a 2-0 week as the team finished the regular season with a 5-2 win at Ohio Dominican College and successfully opened the postseason with a 2-0 victory at Cedarville University.
Against Ohio Dominican, Hilen registered two assists to bring his season total to eight, which is second on the team. In MVNC's victory at Cedarville in the AMC Tournament quarterfinals, Hilen scored his first career goal while also helping to post the team's tenth shutout of the year.
The Cougars, who are currently 14-5-2 overall, will return to action on Friday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. when MVNC will play its NAIA Region IX Tournament semifinal match at top-seeded University of Rio Grande. The Redmen are currently 19-0-1 and ranked fourth in the latest NAIA national poll.
