
Mark Coulter, a member of the Mount Vernon Nazarene College baseball team, has been selected as the American Mideast Conference and NAIA Region IX Player of the Week for his performance during the week of April 29-May 5.
Coulter, a senior first baseman/pitcher from Lewistown, Pennsylvania, led the Cougars to a 4-0 week as he batted .563 with one double, one triple, eight runs batted in, and two runs scored. The former Lewistown Area High School standout went 3-for-7 with one double, one run scored, and three RBI in a doubleheader sweep at Point Park (Pa.) College. He also tossed a complete game win in the second game of the twinbill. Then, he closed out the week by going 6-for-9 in a doubleheader sweep at Geneva (Pa.) College with five RBI and one run scored.
For the season, Coulter is batting a team-high .444 with 12 doubles, one triple, five home runs, 47 RBI, and 27 runs scored. The southpaw has also posted a 6-2 record on the mound with a 3.19 earned run average. In 48 innings of work, Coulter has struck out 37 batters and issued just six walks.
The Cougars, who have won 11 straight games and 14 of their last 15 contests, are currently 34-9 overall. MVNC, which is ranked 21st in the most recent NAIA national poll, will begin play in the NAIA Region IX Tournament on Thursday morning at 10:00 a.m. versus Shawnee State University at Ohio Wesleyan University.
