For the second week in a row, a Mount Vernon Nazarene College baseball pitcher has been selected as the American Mideast Conference and NAIA Region IX Pitcher of the Week.
After senior right-hander Chris Holly received the honors a week ago, sophomore southpaw Adam Rowe earned the awards for his performance during the week of March 18-24.
Rowe, a native of Wooster, Ohio, hurled two complete-game victories during the week with a 1.29 earned run average. The former Wooster High School standout tossed a two-hit shutout and struck out six batters in a 4-0 over American Mideast Conference foe, the University of Rio Grande. Then, he checked the University of Missouri-St. Louis, ranked 15th in NCAA Division II, on five hits with four strikeouts in a 4-2 win.
On the season, Rowe has a 4-0 record with a 1.73 ERA. In 26 innings pitched, he has struck out 17 batters.
The Cougars are 15-3 overall and 2-0 in the American Mideast Conference. MVNC will wrap up its annual trip to Florida with a game against Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) University on Saturday before returning north. Then, the team will host Tiffin University in a conference doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
