Three members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene College men's basketball team were recently honored along with their coach when the National Christian College Athletic Association East Region Teams were announced.
Kenny Chaffin, a 6-foot-6 senior forward from Marysville, Ohio, was named to the NCCAA East Region First Team for the second straight year. The former Marysville High School star is currently averaging 18.4 points and a team-high 8.7 rebounds per game for the Cougars. Chaffin has also blocked a team-best 65 shots, and he shoots 52.5 percent from the field (229-for-436).
Phil Argento, a 6-foot-2 junior guard from Grafton, Ohio, joined Chaffin on the NCCAA East Region First Team after being a Second Team selection last year. The former Lutheran West High School standout currently leads mvnu in scoring (18.5 points per game) and three-pointers made (116). He is shooting 43.4 percent from beyond the three-point arc and 87.4 percent at the charity stripe.
Lenny Foyer, a 6-foot-4 senior forward from Piqua, Ohio, earned NCCAA East Region Honorable Mention status. The former Piqua High School product averages 8.4 points and 4.8 rebounds per game with 31 steals.
Head coach Scott Flemming was also honored by his peers by being selected as the NCCAA East Region Coach of the Year after guiding the Cougars to their fifth 20-win season in the past six years and the NCCAA East Region title.
mvnu is currently 21-11 as the Cougars prepare to head to the NCCAA National Tournament in Boiling Springs, North Carolina, on March 14-16. The tournament pairings will be announced on Monday, March 11.
