Lady Cougars Add Cincinnati Volleyball Player to Roster
written by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director
The Mount Vernon Nazarene College women's volleyball team has added another player to its roster for the 2002 season with the addition of Teresa Diefenbacher.
Diefenbacher, a 5-foot-7 outside hitter from Cincinnati, Ohio, helped Cincinnati Christian High School to a second-place finish in the Metro Buckeye Conference as a senior as she recorded 41 kills, 49 digs, 46 aces, and 54 assists. She was selected to the All-Conference First Team as a junior and the All-Conference Second Team as a senior. During her junior season, she ranked ninth in the city with 63 aces.
"We are glad that Teresa has chosen to become part of our program," said MVNC head coach Paul Swanson, who has posted a 616-215 record in 18 seasons with the Lady Cougars. "She will be a positive addition to our team and our campus community."
Diefenbacher, who also participated on the Southwest Ohio District BLAST volleyball team for four years and the Junior Nationals team, was selected to Who's Who and will receive a Presidential Leadership scholarship from MVNC.
"The reason I have chosen to attend MVNC is because of what I have seen not only in the academic aspects, but in the spiritual aspects as well," said Diefenbacher of her college choice. "I see God moving through this college, and I want to be a part of it. I have visited the campus on many occasions, and every time I have felt accepted by students who did not even know me. I also believe the college has a very strong athletic program and it is exciting to finally be a part of it."
MVNC is coming off a 39-8 overall record in 2001 as the Lady Cougars won a share of their unprecedented fourth straight American Mideast Conference title. In postseason play, MVNC advanced to the championship match of the NAIA Region IX Tournament before finishing one win short of the program's first-ever berth in the NAIA National Tournament.
