written by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director

Jenni Davis, a member of the Mount Vernon Nazarene College women's fastpitch softball team, was recently named to the Verizon Academic All-America College Division Third Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Davis, a junior outfielder from Cardington, Ohio, posted a .398 batting average for the Lady Cougars this season. The former Cardington-Lincoln High School standout also compiled five doubles, one triple, 13 runs batted in, and a team-high 36 runs scored.

In addition to her achievements on the softball diamond, Davis has also posted a 3.844 cumulative grade point average in the classroom. She is majoring in Integrated Language Arts.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Verizon Academic All-America program, which was founded by CoSIDA in 1952 to recognize collegiate student-athletes for their outstanding achievements in the classroom and on the playing field. Over the past 50 years, the Verizon Academic All-America program has grown into one of the most recognized and prestigious collegiate scholar-athlete awards nationwide, honoring student-athletes from all NCAA and NAIA championship sports. The College Division consists of student-athletes who compete at the NCAA Division II, III, and NAIA level.
