
Lisa Beaver, a member of the Mount Vernon Nazarene College women's basketball team, was recently selected as the National Christian College Athletic Association Player of the Week for her performance during the week of January 28-February 3.
Beaver, a 6-foot center from Mount Vernon, Ohio, averaged 16.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per game as the Lady Cougars won one of their three games during the week. The former Mount Vernon High School standout also shot 55 percent from the field (22-of-40) and 66.7 percent at the charity stripe (6-for-9) while compiling three blocked shots and three steals.
In an 82-63 setback at Ohio Dominican College to open the week, Beaver scored nine points and grabbed three rebounds. She followed that up with a career-high 23 points, six rebounds, and three blocked shots in a 70-64 loss to Malone College, ranked 11th in NAIA Division II, as MVNC nearly overcame a 25-point deficit in the final five minutes. Then, she closed out the week with 18 points, eight rebounds, and three steals as the Lady Cougars rallied from 16 points down to defeat Roberts Wesleyan (N.Y.) College 64-60.
On the season, Beaver is averaging 12.5 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. She leads the team with 17 blocked shots and is shooting a team-best 51.7 percent from the field (107-of-207). She has also recorded 17 steals and 11 assists, and she has connected on 66.7 percent of her free throw attempts (36-of-54).
MVNC is currently 7-15 overall and 6-10 in the American Mideast Conference. The Lady Cougars will return to action on Friday when the team will travel to Ursuline College for a conference contest that will tip off at 7:00 p.m.
