Darcee Hoberg and Deanna Stayman, two members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene College women's volleyball team, were recently honored when the NAIA announced its annual All-American and Academic All-American Teams.

Hoberg, a senior outside hitter from Coshocton, Ohio, became only the fourth Lady Cougar to be named to an NAIA All-American Team in volleyball as she received Honorable Mention All-American status. The former River View High School star led MVNC with 500 kills and 492 digs, while also compiling 58 blocks, 17 assists, and 69 aces.

Stayman, a senior defensive specialist from Greencastle, Pennsylvania, became the eighth Lady Cougar to be selected as an NAIA Academic All-American. The former Shalom Christian Academy standout served up a school-record 88 aces in 2001 and led the team with 906 serve attempts. She also finished with 453 digs and 15 kills.

MVNC finished the season with a 39-8 overall record. The Lady Cougars also claimed a share of their fourth straight American Mideast Conference title with a 21-2 conference mark. The team finished the season as the NAIA Region IX runner-up for the third straight year.
