
Eddie Wright, a member of the Mount Vernon Nazarene College baseball team, was recently selected as the American Mideast Conference and NAIA Region IX Player of the Week for his efforts during the week of April 15-April 21.
Wright, a senior outfielder from Mount Vernon, Ohio, batted .563 for the week as the Cougars went 3-2. He was 9-for-16 at the plate with two doubles, one home run, one stolen base, nine runs scored, and eight runs batted in.
Wright, a former standout at Mount Vernon High School, began the week by going 4-for-6 with a home run, three runs scored, and four RBI in a doubleheader against Ohio Dominican College as MVNC dropped both games to the AMC-leading Panthers.
He followed that performance by going 4-for-6 in a doubleheader sweep at Urbana University, ranked 21st in the NAIA at the time. He scored five runs in the twinbill, knocked in four more, and registered two doubles.
Wright then closed out the week by going 1-for-4 in a non-conference game against Ohio Wesleyan University as the Cougars rallied for a 5-4 win in 10 innings. He stole one base in that game, scored a run, and gunned down two runners attempting to stretch singles into doubles.
For the season, Wright is batting .383 with eight doubles, one triple, three home runs, 24 RBI, 24 runs scored. Wright has also stolen five bases.
MVNC is currently 26-9 overall and 11-5 in conference play. The Cougars will host Malone College on Thursday in an AMC doubleheader that will begin at 1:00 p.m.
