Six members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene College women's fastpitch softball team were recently honored when the National Christian College Athletic Association East Region Team was announced.

Amanda Triplett, a senior first baseman from Rockford, Ohio, highlighted the East Region Team as she was selected for the fourth straight year. The former All-Ohioan from Parkway High School leads the Lady Cougars in nearly every offensive category with a .425 batting average, 45 hits, 22 runs scored, 13 doubles, one triple, 35 runs batted in, and a school-record eight home runs.

Shannon Rachel, a freshman pitcher from Galion, Ohio, joined Triplett on the East Region Team. The former All-Ohioan at Colonel Crawford High School has compiled a 13-5 record with one save and a 2.72 earned run average. She has recorded a win or a save in all but three of the team's victories this season.

Jenni Davis, a junior outfielder from Cardington, Ohio, was also named to the East Region Team. As MVNC's leadoff hitter, the former Cardington-Lincoln High School standout has posted a .371 batting average with a team-high 25 runs scored. Davis has also recorded three doubles, one triple, and seven runs scored.

Shelly Claxon, Jackie Shively, and Tiffany Simpson were each named Honorable Mention by the NCCAA East Region coaches. Claxon, a senior shortstop from Wheelersburg, Ohio, is batting .283 with 15 RBI and 22 runs scored, while Shively, a freshman outfielder from Englewood, Ohio, is batting .357 with nine RBI and 17 runs scored. Simpson, a freshman second baseman from Loudonville, Ohio, is also batting .286 with six doubles, 10 RBI, and 20 runs scored.

The Lady Cougars are currently 17-17 overall and 10-12 in the American Mideast Conference. MVNC will take part in the NCCAA National Tournament at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Indiana, beginning with first round action on Thursday morning. The Lady Cougars, who are the ninth seed in the 10-team event, will face eighth-seeded Hillsdale Freewill Baptist (Okla.) College at 10:00 a.m.
