The field is set for the 2000 Wazie Invitational Volleyball Tournament at Mount Vernon Nazarene College and it should prove to be an exciting weekend of action when the five-team two-day tournament gets under way on Friday evening.
"This year's tournament features one our most competitive groups of teams yet," said MVNC head coach Paul Swanson. "With two nationally-ranked teams and two other teams regionally-ranked, it should make for an exciting weekend of college volleyball action. And best of all, it is free to the public."
The Lady Cougars headline the tournament field as MVNC enters Thursday night's match with Cedarville University with a 13-2 overall record and ranked #20 in the most recent NAIA national poll. It is the highest ranking for the team in its successful 25-year history.
The rest of the tournament features King (Tenn.) College, Roberts Wesleyan (N.Y.) College, Houghton (N.Y.) College, and Marian (Ind.) College. King is ranked #24 in the latest NAIA national poll with a 10-2 overall record. Roberts Wesleyan is the second-ranked team in NAIA Region IX and received votes in the national poll with a 14-2 overall mark. Houghton is ranked fourth in NAIA Region IX with an 11-6 overall record, while Marian has a deceptive 3-4 overall mark after falling in five games to unbeaten Indiana Wesleyan University on Tuesday evening.

At 6:00 p.m., two matches will take place with King playing Houghton and Marian facing Roberts Wesleyan. The day will conclude with MVNC taking on Roberts Wesleyan and Marian squaring off with King at 8:00 p.m.
