Lisa Hinman and Rita Mullins, two members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene College women's soccer team, recently were honored for their performances during the week of October 2-8.
Hinman, a freshman forward from Syracuse, New York, was selected as the American Mideast Conference, NAIA Region IX, and National Christian College Athletic Association Player of the Week after registering back-to-back hat tricks in victories over Geneva (Pa.) College and Saint Vincent (Pa.) College. It marked the first time in the first-year program's history that anyone had scored three goals in a match - and Hinman did it twice in the same week.
The former All-State player at Faith Heritage School leads the Lady Cougars with 17 goals and 38 total points. She has also contributed four assists. She is among the leaders in the AMC and the NCCAA in both goals and points.
Mullins, a freshman goalkeeper from Mansfield, Ohio, who has helped MVNC post nine shutouts so far this season, was chosen as the NCCAA Goalkeeper of the Week. The former Madison High School standout has a 0.35 goals against average, and she also recorded an assist in the match against Geneva. She leads both the AMC and the NCCAA with her goals against average.
The Lady Cougars are currently 11-1-0 overall and 7-0-0 in the AMC. MVNC will return to action on Saturday afternoon when the team will host Walsh University in an important conference match at 3:00 p.m.
