Darcee Hoberg and Andrea Rudd, two members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene College women's volleyball team, have been named the American Mideast Conference Player and Setter of the Week respectively for their performances during the week of November 6-12.
Hoberg, a 5-foot-10 junior outside hitter from Coshocton, Ohio, averaged 4.27 kills and 5.36 digs per game for the week as the second-seeded Lady Cougars won all three matches at the AMC Tournament to claim the tournament title. The former All-Ohioan at River View High School also compiled four blocks and seven aces during the week.
In the quarterfinals against seventh-seeded Shawnee State University, Hoberg pounded 12 kills to go along with seven digs. In the semifinals against third-seeded Walsh University, she added 15 kills and 22 digs. In the championship match against top-seeded Malone College, she finished with 20 kills, 30 digs, and a career-high five assists.
For the season, Hoberg has recorded 35 assists, 49 aces, 70 blocks, 477 kills, and a team-high 592 digs. She has moved into sixth place on MVNC's career kills list with 1,315 kills and into seventh place on the Lady Cougars' career digs list with 1,355 digs.
Rudd, a 5-foot-9 junior setter from Wilmington, Ohio, averaged 14.18 assists and .91 blocks per game for the week as MVNC earned the top seed in the NAIA Region IX Tournament by winning the AMC Tournament title. In addition, the former All-Ohioan at Wilmington High School also compiled four aces, seven kills, and 32 digs.
In the quarterfinals against Shawnee State, Rudd handed out 46 assists with 10 digs and three blocks. In the semifinals against Walsh, she added 43 assists, nine digs, two aces, and three blocks. In the championship match against Malone, she finished with 67 assists, 13 digs, three kills, and four blocks.
For the season, Rudd is closing in on the single-season school record for assists. She currently has 1,789 assists and needs just 89 more assists to set a new record. She has also recorded 33 aces, 93 blocks, 109 kills, and 414 digs.
MVNC (35-11) will return to action on Friday when the Lady Cougars will take part in the NAIA Region IX Tournament at Houghton (N.Y.) College. MVNC, who is the top seed in the six-team tournament, will face Roberts Wesleyan (N.Y.) College at 3:00 p.m. and Houghton at 7:00 p.m. in pool play matches. The top two teams from each pool will advance to the semifinals on Saturday.
