Three members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene College women's volleyball team were recently selected to the NAIA Region IX First and Second Teams when the awards were announced on Monday.
Juniors Darcee Hoberg and Amanda Schumm were named to the Region IX First Team, while classmate Andrea Rudd was chosen to the Region IX Second Team after guiding the Lady Cougars to a runner-up finish in the region for the second straight season.
Hoberg, a 5-foot-10 outside hitter from Coshocton, Ohio, led the team with 655 digs. The former All-Ohioan at River View High School also compiled 35 assists, 56 aces, 75 blocks, and 537 kills. In addition, she posted a team-best 94.5 serve reception percentage.
Schumm, a 5-foot-10 outside hitter from Rockford, Ohio, led the team with 586 kills and tied with Hoberg for the team lead with 56 aces. The former All-Ohioan at Parkway High School as tallied 47 assists, 62 blocks, and 606 digs.
Rudd, a 5-foot-9 setter from Wilmington, Ohio, set a school record with 1,970 assists during the 2000 season. The former All-Ohioan at Wilmington High School also recorded 35 aces, 105 blocks, 123 kills, and 436 digs.
MVNC finished the season with a 38-12 overall record. The Lady Cougars also won a share of their third straight American Mideast Conference title.
