LeAnn Mallernee, a member of the Mount Vernon Nazarene College women's basketball team, has been selected as the National Christian College Athletic Association National Player of the Week for her efforts during the week of October 30-November 5.
Mallernee, a 6-foot-2 senior center from Sugarcreek, Ohio, led the Lady Cougars to an 84-50 non-conference win over Ohio State University-Newark in the team's 2000-2001 season opener. The former Garaway High School standout poured in a career-high 28 points on 12-of-16 shooting from the field. She also grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds, blocked three shots, and recorded two steals in just 25 minutes of action.
MVNC (1-0) will return to action on Tuesday, November 14, when the team will host Kentucky Christian College in another non-conference contest that is slated to tip off at 7:00 p.m.
