"Five Lady Cougars Garner AMC Volleyball Honors"

Five members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene College women's volleyball team were honored when the American Mideast Conference awards were announced on Tuesday.
Juniors Darcee Hoberg, Amanda Schumm, and Andrea Rudd were named to the AMC First Team, while senior Scarlett Habrun earned AMC Second Team honors. Freshman Carrie McClelland was also selected to the six-player AMC All-Freshman Team.
Hoberg, a 5-foot-10 outside hitter from Coshocton, Ohio, earned AMC First Team honors for the second straight year. The former All-Ohioan at River View High School leads the Lady Cougars and the AMC with 592 digs. She has also recorded 49 aces, 70 blocks, and 477 kills.
Schumm, a 5-foot-10 outside hitter from Rockford, Ohio, was named to the AMC First Team after claiming AMC Second Team honors the past two seasons. The former All-Ohioan at Parkway High School leads MVNC with 542 kills and 53 aces. She has also compiled 44 assists, 55 blocks, and 547 digs.
Rudd, a 5-foot-9 setter from Wilmington, Ohio, was named to the AMC First Team after spending her first two seasons splitting time in the Lady Cougars' two-setter attack. The former All-Ohioan at Wilmington High School has posted 1,789 assists so far this season and needs just 89 more assists to set the single-season school mark. She has also recorded 33 aces, 93 blocks, 109 kills, and 414 digs.
Habrun, a 5-foot-9 middle hitter from Millersburg, Ohio, was named to the AMC Second Team. The former All-Ohioan at West Holmes High School has compiled 33 aces, 35 assists, 146 blocks, 297 digs, and 356 kills so far this season.
McClelland, a 5-foot-10 middle hitter from Fredericktown, Ohio, was selected to the AMC All-Freshmen Team after starting every match for MVNC this season. The former All-Ohioan at Fredericktown High School leads the Lady Cougars with 158 blocks. She has also posted 99 digs and 346 kills.
MVNC is currently 35-11 overall this season. The Lady Cougars claimed a share of their third straight AMC title with a 13-1 conference record. The team also won the AMC Tournament last weekend and will be the top seed at the six-team NAIA Region IX Tournament this weekend at Houghton (N.Y.) College. MVNC will face Roberts Wesleyan (N.Y.) College at 3:00 p.m. and Houghton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday in pool play. The top two teams in each pool will advance to the semifinals on Saturday. The winner of the tournament will receive an automatic berth in the NAIA National Tournament in West Palm Beach, Florida.
