"Five Cougars Receive NCCAA All-American Honors"

Five members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene College baseball team were recently honored by the National Christian College Athletic Association when the coaches selected the NCCAA All-Americans.
Mike Waddell and Scott Crawford were named to the NCCAA All-American Team, while Jeff Wine, Mark Coulter, and Adam Rowe were each chosen as NCCAA Honorable Mention All-Americans. The Cougars finished the season with a 35-16 overall record, and MVNC advanced to the semifinals of the NCCAA National Tournament.
Waddell, a senior outfielder/pitcher from Cardington, Ohio, batted .436 and led the team with 12 home runs and 59 runs batted in. The former Cardington-Lincoln High School standout also tied the school record with 21 doubles. On the mound, he was 6-1 with a 7.25 earned run average and 44 strikeouts.
Crawford, a junior shortstop from Waldo, Ohio, led the team with a .449 batting average. Despite only playing in 26 games due to a knee injury, the former River Valley High School product compiled five triples, five home runs, 34 runs scored, and 30 RBI.
Wine, a senior outfielder from Bourbonnais, Illinois, batted .377 in his final season. The former Bradley-Bourbonnais High School star recorded 11 doubles, a school-record tying eight triples, six home runs, 37 RBI, and a team-high 54 runs scored. He also stole 12 bases in 15 attempts.
Coulter, a junior first baseman/pitcher from Lewistown, Pennsylvania, posted a 9-3 record on the mound with a 3.57 ERA. The Lewistown Area High School graduate also batted .374 with eight doubles, 10 home runs, 30 runs scored, and 52 RBI.
Rowe, a freshman pitcher from Wooster, Ohio, finished his rookie campaign with an 8-4 record and a team-best 3.51 ERA. The former Wooster High School standout struck out 56 batters in 74 1/3 innings of work while issuing just 36 walks.
