
Joel Laslo, a member of the Mount Vernon Nazarene College baseball team, has been selected as the American Mideast Conference, NAIA Region IX, and National Christian College Athletic Association Player of the Week for his performance during the week of March 19-25.
Laslo, a senior outfielder/catcher from Mount Vernon, Ohio, batted .625 for the week (15-of-24) with a 1.042 slugging percentage and a .750 on-base percentage. In eight games, the former Mount Vernon High School standout had two doubles, one triple, two home runs, nine runs batted in, and six runs scored as the Cougars went 6-2.
Laslo had three three-hit games during the week including two against Franklin Pierce (N.H.) College and one against Dana (Neb.) College. He also had a pair of hits in an 11-7 victory over the University of St. Thomas (Minn.), who was ranked second in the NCAA Division III preseason poll.
For the season, Laslo leads MVNC with a .553 batting average. He has recorded 26 hits, three doubles, one triple, three home runs, nine runs scored, and 16 RBI. He also has a .611 on-base percentage and an .851 slugging percentage.
The Cougars are currently 13-3 overall and 2-0 in the AMC. The team is slated to host Ohio State University-Newark in a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday beginning at 1:00 p.m.
