Lakota East High School Alums at MVNC

The Mount Vernon Nazarene College men's soccer team has added another recruit to the Cougars' roster for the 2001 season from Lakota East High School.

T.J. Myers, a midfielder from West Chester, Ohio will join the Hilen brothers, Jeremy and Jamie, as he becomes the third Thunderbirds' player on the MVNC roster. Myers recorded 10 goals and seven assists as a senior at Lakota East this past year. For his efforts, he was named to the Cincinnati All-City First Team, the Greater Miami Conference First Team, and the All-Ohio Honorable Mention Team. He holds the school records for most goals scored and most assists recorded in a four-year career.

"T.J. will have an immediate impact in our program," said MVNC head coach Paul Furey. "He is a versatile player who will help us on both ends of the field. I am excited for what lies ahead for him here at MVNC."

"It has been great to have a pipeline from Lakota East and the quality players that this young program has produced," added Furey, referring to the fact that there will be three former Thunderbirds on the 2001 MVNC roster. "We hope to stay tapped into this great source."

"There are several reasons why I chose to attend MVNC," said Myers, who passed up several Division I offers. "I like the Christian atmosphere there, and I also like the fact that several of my friends will be playing there with me."

The Cougars are coming off a 16-7-1 season in 2000. The team advanced to the National Christian College Athletic Association National Tournament for the third straight year where MVNC finished third. The Cougars have posted a 64-28-4 record over the last four seasons.
