"MVNC's Trainer Named NCCAA National Player of the Week"

   Angie Trainer, a member of the Mount Vernon Nazarene College women's basketball team, has been selected as the National Christian College Athletic Association National Player of the Week for her efforts during the week of January 8-14.

   Trainer, a 5-foot-10 junior guard from Washington Court House, Ohio, averaged 20.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 4.0 steals per game during the Lady Cougars' 1-1 week. The former standout at Miami Trace High School shot 53.1 percent from the field (17-of-32) and 66.7 percent from the free throw line (6-of-9) for the week.

   Trainer began the week with 10 points, five rebounds, four assists, and three steals in MVNC's 74-43 American Mideast Conference victory at Point Park (Pa.) College. She followed that up with 31 points, seven rebounds, five steals, and three assists in a 97-90 conference loss at Seton Hill (Pa.) College.

   On the season, Trainer leads the Lady Cougars in scoring by averaging 16.7 points per game. She has compiled four blocked shots, 46 steals, 54 assists, and 90 rebounds. She is shooting 48.7 percent from the field (96-of-197) and 69.8 percent from the free throw line (67-of-96).

   MVNC is currently 13-4 overall and ranked #21 in the latest NAIA Division II national poll. The Lady Cougars, who are also 5-3 in the AMC, will return to action on Thursday when the team will travel to Ursuline College for a non-conference game that will tip off at 7:00 p.m.
